I had the opportunity to interview a very good friend of mine about his experience living in a refugee camp in Ethiopia. He was too nervous to have his photo taken, so I captured his family’s hospitality instead. This interview is very eye opening and very raw. I hope it can help us feel thankful for our fortunate circumstances and feel compassion for those who have not been so lucky. This is the story of Hagos.

Simple Ideas To #LightTheWorld This December
Each year during the month of December, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints inspires a worldwide movement called Light The World. For 4 weeks they encourage anyone and everyone to get involved and help those in need globally, in the community and in your family, with the purpose of showing love for others, as Christ did.
Throughout the month The Church gives new ideas on how you can make a difference through service. Below I included each week’s focus and some suggestions on where to start. Happy helping!

“If Not You, Then Who?” How We Can Help Refugees Locally And Abroad.
I have been volunteering as a family mentor to a refugee family from Eritrea, Africa for the last 2.5 years. They are the most wonderful, good hearted people I know. They came from nothing, left their home with nothing and still have nothing. What is amazing about them is that they will give you everything they own if they knew you needed it. Whenever I visit they are constantly trying to offer me what little food they have, as a sign of respect and friendship.
Even though they struggle to make ends meet, they still consider themselves fortunate compared to the refugees who have not been able to make it to the United States and resort to living in makeshift camps and tent cities.
The refugee crisis is the biggest human human crisis in the world. The number of refugees and people displaced by conflict and disaster worldwide has reached over 68.5 million people. That is one person displaced very 2 seconds last year.
